Expand Youth After-School Programmes

Young people in our district deserve access to safe, engaging, and structured activities once the school day ends. Currently, the availability of after-school programmes across Ambridge is limited, leaving many students — particularly those from lower-income households — without supervised environments to learn, grow, and socialize productively.

The absence of adequate youth provision has been linked to rising concerns around juvenile delinquency, social isolation, and declining academic performance. Parents and guardians are increasingly finding it difficult to manage the gap between the end of the school day and the end of the working day, placing additional strain on families and communities alike.

This petition calls on the Youth Engagement Steering Group to take immediate and meaningful action by expanding funded after-school clubs across all wards. We are asking the council to allocate dedicated resources toward programmes that offer academic support, creative arts, sports, and vocational skills — activities proven to improve outcomes for young people.

With a target of 1,000 signatures, we aim to demonstrate the strength of community feeling on this issue and urge the council to treat youth engagement as a priority, not an afterthought. Every child in Ambridge deserves the opportunity to thrive beyond the classroom.
