Lower Loxley Heritage Trust

The Lower Loxley Heritage Trust is a Joint Committee body established to oversee the preservation, conservation, and public enjoyment of Lower Loxley Hall and its associated estate — a collection of Grade II listed buildings and formal gardens of significant regional importance. The Trust operates under a partnership model, drawing together Ambridge District Council, Borsetshire County Council, and private estate interests to deliver a sustainable heritage management framework.

The Trust’s core responsibilities include maintaining the structural integrity of the listed buildings and their grounds in accordance with Historic England guidelines, facilitating public access for cultural and educational visits, and developing income-generating activities such as events, tours, and educational programmes that support the estate’s long-term financial sustainability.

The body plays a critical role in managing applications for heritage grant funding from bodies such as the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England. It also provides strategic direction on the estate’s use for community leisure activities, outdoor education, and arts programming — reflecting its classification under the Sports & Leisure category.

Ambridge District Council’s participation through a substitute representative ensures that local planning, access, and community benefit considerations are factored into Trust decisions. Quarterly meetings review conservation progress, financial performance, upcoming events, and any planning or licensing matters arising from estate activities. The Trust operates on a no-remuneration basis for council-appointed members.
